Excellent website! I only wish that more people knew about it. Personally, I will make an effort to ensure that more people, especially emergency responders, know about the benefits of your organization, the website, and the opportunity to share ideas in the bulletin board forum. Thank you.
As one of eight fire fighters that responded to Katrina I was surprised to find disorganization and lack of direction waiting for us even a month after the event. Our staff and assignments changed by the hour with no information as to whom was in charge. We gave suggestions for change and where old not to voice our suggestions. Most of the people from FEMA that we met where part time and had very little administrative skills nor wanted to be in charge. After this experience it is my opinion that emergency response should be left to Police and Fire and housing, food, ect should be left to the church and Red Cross. I would go back but would go thru a church or a sponsoring fire department
I just received the heads up about this website. Who knew? Great site. I would suggest linking this site to the many firefighting sites out there: IAFC, FireHouse, FireEngineering, IAFF, etc. Great job!
Don't forget about the volunteer firefighters. Urban Search and Rescue, as well as the many regional disaster response teams are made up of people from many different professions.
